Staff Spotlight: All About Gillian Morgan

What makes a good staff member? After interviewing several Helix students we came down to a consensus. Friendly, supportive, funny, cool, and passionate are words students used to describe the definition of a good staff member.

Based on the opinion of Helix Charter high school students, Gillian Morgan was voted in a poll titled “Who is your favorite Helix staff member.” That being said, we asked her a couple of questions about herself so we could get to know more about who she is and what she does.

Morgan has been working at Helix Charter high school since 2019. A fun fact about her is that she is a Helix alumni. Her passion is to help people which correlates to her job here on campus. She works in the college building and her mission is to help prepare students for college. A very important thing she wants students to know when applying to colleges is that it’s okay to branch out and try new things. So you shouldn’t be afraid of going on a different path. She also talked about how making mistakes is important and it’s okay to feel like you dont know everything.

My first question for Morgan was “What are some important things you’ve learned while working at Helix?” She then responded by talking about how spirited students are. She followed that up by talking about how she likes to meet new students because everyone is so unique and different.  My second question for Morgan was “What career would you have if you didn’t work at Helix?” Almost immediately she responded with a coffee shop/bookstore all in one. I gasped at the thought because I could only imagine how cool it would be. Speaking of jobs, the next question I asked was “What was your first job and how does it differ from the one you have now? “She told me that her first job was in a mailroom which I found very fascinating because that is not at all what she was expecting. After curiously asking more questions Morgan mentioned  how it’s different from working at Helix because it was more project based.

Outside of school Morgan likes to hang out with friends, do crafts, and be out in nature. She also mentioned how she likes to go on runs in her free time. While Morgan talked about how she really likes nature she mentioned the rest of her favorite things like songs, foods, and movies. She likes to listen to Chappel Roan, a music artist who is recently becoming more popular. Morgan’s favorite things to watch are Sing 2 and The Office which she is obsessed with. She said she has seen and watched The Office so many times. Next she talked about all of her favorite foods and snacks that she likes. She loves Thai food, sour patch kids, Takis, Alani, and of course coffee.

Finally I asked her some of my last questions.“What is the most important thing you learned in the past few months?” She answered with “Everyone has their own stories”. I believe she was hinting at the fact that everyone is unique and not two people on the planet are the same. Everyone has their own lives, problems, successes, struggles and everything else. After we talked about how unique everyone is I asked Morgan to describe herself using three words only. The words she came up with were silly, friendly, and empathetic. During the interview I saw small parts of each trait peak through her personality and many people say how Morgan is a friendly person. As the time I spent with Morgan during the interview went on I learned about all of her favorite things. I also learned a lot about who she is as a person. After the first couple of minutes I could then see why she was chosen as favorite Helix staff member.
