Places to Visit in San Diego For The Holidays

As the temperatures drop outside, we’re introduced to the magic of the holiday season with its warm gatherings, festive decorations, and acts of generosity. Families gather all over the world to exchange gifts and spend quality time together. Whether it’s the thrill of shopping for the perfect gifts or sharing a big feast with family and friends, Christmas brings out a unique kind of joy within people. A big factor during the holiday season is sightseeing, especially lights. San Diego County has everything from parades and light shows to holiday markets and classic performances. In this article, we’ll be exploring a few of many local holiday attractions in San Diego that you may want to check out during your winter break.

Skating by the Sea – Hotel Del Coronado
One of the most angelic venues is Hotel Del Coronado. Not only do they decorate their hotel beautifully, but they also set up a beachfront ice skating rink! It’s a great place to go with both family and friends. You can purchase tickets online or by phone, for $40 general admission; ice skate rental included in the cost. By attending the ice rink, you’ll also be supporting Make-A-Wish San Diego, since a portion of the proceeds will be donated to them. The rink opened on Nov 21, 2024 and will remain open until Jan 5, 2025.

Holiday Market at Petco Park
If you’re looking for a more interactive event, for all ages, visit Petco Park! Petco park is hosting their fourth annual holiday market beginning December 5 until the 27. They have several lighting displays, photos and visits with Santa, live reindeer, and shops to buy stocking stuffers and gifts. As you listen to live music sung on the Sycuan Stage, you can try the many food tastings that they host such as cider, mulled wine, shortbread, and other seasonal treats. Inside the market, they’ve decorated it like a winter wonderland! They have a train to transport kids, a carousel, with snowfall surrounding Gallagher Square along with a 40 foot tall Christmas tree. All included in the price! Depending on the date and time, ticket costs range from $20 to $30 and can be purchased on their website.

SeaWorld Christmas Celebration – Mission Bay
And lastly, if you’re looking for a place that’ll fit the needs of every family member, I highly recommend SeaWorld! Not only can you enjoy the theme park itself, but their unique Christmas celebration. It’s been open to the public since November 15 and will remain open until January 5. You can find entertainment throughout the acres of decorations including, but not limited to, two 30+ feet tall Christmas “trees”, live reindeer, a Christmas parade, thrilling rides with a festive twist, and an opportunity to wish their marine animals a “Merry Christmas”. Along with the purchase of a ticket, they offer ticket upgrades to further enhance your visit. You can purchase your tickets online, however prices may vary depending on when you plan your trip. Don’t miss it!

Like I’ve previously mentioned, there’s so much to do in San Diego during the holiday season. There’s events that I didn’t highlight that you may prefer, but I hope you will take advantage of the information I’ve provided to inspire your plans for winter break this year.
