The Impact of Social Media on Student Life

As technology becomes more established in everyday life, social media starts to be an integral part of student life. From staying connected with friends through online spaces to keeping up with the latest trends on Instagram, Tik Tok, and Snapchat. These apps play a significant role in our daily routines. However, being on technology has positive and negative aspects.

On the positive side, it can provide access to information, easy access to communication, and even be used as a source of entertainment. On the negative side, an act of addiction can be formed, eye strain, and potentially reduce physical activity. Finding a way to balance the use of technology in your life where it can enhance your life instead of overwhelming it is something some people would struggle with. In general, the effect of social media or technology in general can be varied whether that be positive or negative.

Here at Helix, our College Prep Freshman English students have been researching this topic for quite some time. Two star papers, which deserve recognition come from Isabella Ceja, and Laycie Ann Campania! Their amazing essays focus on how social media and technology affect our everyday lives.

The first essay, “Your Decision or Your Phone’s”, by Isabella Ceja, describes the way social media influences and controls people’s, especially teenagers’, everyday decisions and choices. If you are looking to read more click here!! Your Decision or Your Phone’s?

The second standout essay is written by Laycie Ann Campania, which discusses the effects that social media leaves on teenagers. Her paper, “Social Media is Deceiving: Teenagers’ Self-Esteem and Body Confidence,” discusses topics such as self-esteem, body image, and unrealistic expectations.
