It’s a special time of year for Helix athletics… It’s the end of playoffs for our fall sports and the beginning of our winter sports! All of our fall sports have had a great season and some of them have even won big titles. With that, our winter sports have started forming teams and are shaping up to have great seasons.
Here is a recap of our fall sports.
Football
Arguably Helix’s most famous sport, our 2025 football team made it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs and unfortunately lost to Steele Canyon. The final score was 22-19, so Steele will advance to play San Diego High. All in all our Highlanders left everything on the field and gave it their all this season.
Flag Football
Helix’s newest sport, girls flag football has had a legendary season which sadly concluded earlier this month. Our highlander ladies lost to Mira Mesa in a close 27-20 ending. This was the semi-final game, meaning Mira Mesa will advance to the final against Brawley on Nov eighth. The girls had a great first year and are sure to carve their names in the Helix history books. For more information on flag football’s first season look here at our previous article.
Girls Volleyball
Girls volleyball rocked gyms across San Diego with their drive and competitive spirit. Although their season was cut short, their amazing team culture and off the court friendship will make next season spectacular. Regrettably the girls lost to Santa Fe Christian in the first round of division two playoffs.
Boys Waterpolo
Boys waterpolo had a fun year, achieving open division was no easy beast. During the season Helix won the San Diego Open tournament in overtime against Valhalla, with the winning goal being scored by jr. Jackson Morgans. Sadly our boys lost in the quarterfinals of CIF to cathedral catholic 4-16, however they will be back next year to continue their legacy.
Girls Tennis
Our girls had a great year in division one, which reflected all of the hard work they put into winning league champs. Though they didn’t make it far into CIF, having a team that is continuously growing stronger is one of the defining qualities that made them so successful. Two of our players made it to individual CIF matches, Ella Short sr. and Bella Lawson so. The girls played their final match against La Jolla Country Day and endured a 2-10 loss.
Girls Golf
The girls golf team had an amazing year which concluded in their CIF tournament against Eastlake and San Marcos High School. For the Grossmont league they went undefeated and won league championships. This was a historical year for the girls and we predict next year will be even better.
Field Hockey
Field hockey has always been one of Helix’s most fun sports, this year especially our girls had a great season and made so many memories. In the division two playoffs they unfortunately lost to Rancho Buena Vista High School 2-0 which concluded their playoff run. Overall they had a great season and will be back better than ever next year.
Cross Country
Our cross country team concluded their season with many wins. Individually, the girls cross country team placed in the top 10 of CIF division one this past weekend and had a legendary fall season. The boys team also competed in CIF division one and ended in the top 20 overall. To highlight two of Helix’s star runners, jr. Kate Weaver and sr. Tyus Joseph both finished fourth.
Now that fall sports season is over, it’s time for winter sports! This season Helix will be having basketball (boys and girls), soccer (boys and girls), competitive cheer, girls waterpolo, and wrestling (boys and girls). Lookout for scores and scheduling, be sure to check out some games this season, let’s go Helix!!
